According to a recent circular sent to school leaders, CBSE-affiliated schools in the UAE are no longer required to issue APAAR IDs.

The circular, reviewed by Khaleej Times, states that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has exempted schools abroad from APAAR due to various administrative and legal reasons in those countries.

APAAR, or Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry, is a unique ID linked to student enrollment, enabling Indian authorities to monitor a student’s academic progress from primary to higher education, in line with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 of India.

Earlier this month, CBSE mandated APAAR IDs for students in India registering for Grade 10 and 12 board exams.

To generate an APAAR ID, students must provide details such as their name, age, date of birth, gender, photograph, and Aadhaar number.

Aadhaar is a 12-digit individual identification number serving as identity and address proof for residents of India.

Following the announcement in India, students at CBSE-affiliated schools in the UAE expressed concerns over this requirement.

However, UAE school principals have confirmed that the requirement does not apply to overseas schools.

The Principal of Sharjah Indian School stated, “As previously mentioned, the APAAR ID is intended only for India and not for schools operating abroad. This has now been confirmed by CBSE.”

Principal Abhilasha Singh of Shining Star International School in Abu Dhabi echoed this, adding, “CBSE has clarified in a circular to all school Principals that APAAR IDs are not needed for foreign schools. This should resolve any confusion students had in recent weeks regarding APAAR IDs and Aadhaar.”
