The Syrian news agency ‘SANA’ reported on Thursday morning the arrival of the United Nations Security Council delegation to Syria, which observed the scale of destruction and damage in the Jobar neighborhood of Damascus. The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had stated on Wednesday that the visit of the Security Council delegation to Damascus is a confirmation of the international community’s support for a new Syria. The ministry explained in a statement that the visit of the Security Council delegation confirms the international community’s support for the new Syria and its stance alongside Syria in the reconstruction phase and the establishment of its sovereignty and stability.

The Syrian news agency anticipated that the delegation would hold meetings with several Syrian officials and representatives from Syrian civil society, as well as committees investigating the events in the coastal areas and Sweida. Additionally, a meeting with the Deputy Special Envoy of the United Nations to Syria, Najat Rochdi, was expected.

Slovenia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Samuel Žbogar, whose country holds the presidency of the Security Council this month, explained that the scheduled visit to Syria aims to send a message of support to the country, expressing his hope that this visit would enhance the Syrians’ trust in the United Nations.
