Trump wrote on his platform ‘Truth Social’: ‘The major trade meeting in Europe between the United States and China was extremely successful! It will conclude soon… I will have talks with President Xi next Friday.’ Trump added that ‘an agreement was also reached regarding a certain company (TikTok), which the youth in our country were eager to save.’
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bissent stated on Monday that the United States and China have made ‘very good progress’ on the technical details to reach an agreement during the ongoing trade talks with Beijing. Bissent added: ‘We have a basis for an agreement on TikTok. President Trump and President Xi Jinping of China will discuss the matter on Friday to finalize the agreements,’ noting that the commercial terms of the TikTok deal have already been agreed upon by private parties but will not be discussed publicly.
Bissent mentioned in press statements on the second day of trade talks between Washington and Beijing in the Spanish capital, Madrid: ‘We have made very good progress on the technical details of the agreement and the terms of the comprehensive agreement.’ He added that the Chinese side has made ‘very aggressive demands,’ which the United States will consider.
Trade talks between the US and China began in Spain on Sunday to discuss trade issues, tariffs, and the matter related to the TikTok platform. An executive order was previously signed extending the deadline for TikTok’s shutdown in the United States by 90 days until September 17, 2025.
