US-Russia Meeting in Alaska: Strategic Significance

Al-Shuheimi, in a conversation with ‘Sputnik’ radio, highlighted ‘the historical significance of this meeting for both parties and its strategic importance for the American side,’ emphasizing that ‘the choice of Alaska reflects this.’

He added in his talk with ‘Sputnik’: ‘The European vision stems from the fact that Europe considers itself a part of the conflict in Ukraine and insists on being part of the solution without declaring a clear defeat for Ukraine. Europe supports this meeting despite its absence and its desire not to be excluded from future meetings and any future agreements.’

The American President announced earlier that he would meet his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on the 15th of August this year. Despite the numerous issues expected to be discussed between the two presidents, primarily the Ukrainian file, it is anticipated that there will be potential agreements, especially given the intersecting interests of both countries in the region and the impact of the Ukrainian crisis on the situation in the Middle East, as well as the Palestinian issue, which is a focal point of tensions in the region.
