A widely circulated video on social media, filmed by a driver, documents the moment of the accident and the preceding car chase, sparking significant reactions in Egypt. The video shows the chase from its beginning until the moment of collision. According to the video, some drivers stopped to assist the girl and help her out of the car, while the suspected vehicles fled the scene.
Investigations revealed that the suspects chased the girls’ car on the road and blocked their path, prompting the girl to try to avoid the collision, but she crashed into a stationary truck on the roadside. This resulted in various injuries to her and her companion, and the injured were transported to the hospital for treatment. A medical source indicated that their health condition stabilized, and they were discharged from the hospital hours after the accident. The suspects were referred to the public prosecution for investigation.
Lawyer Amr Abdel Salam stated that the three suspects might face charges of ‘attempted murder,’ along with accusations of ‘harassment.’ He noted that the penalties could range from 10 to 15 years imprisonment. The lawyer emphasized that this incident is an isolated case and not a recurring phenomenon in Egypt, but he called for stricter penalties to prevent recurrence.
