Dubai’s Emirates International School (EIS) has implemented a ban on mobile phones in classrooms, announced by owner and UAE billionaire Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor on Saturday.

In a video posted on his X account, Al Habtoor explained that the decision, made two days before the new academic year begins on Monday, is intended to create “a more focused and disciplined educational environment.”

“Students must either hand over their phones to the school administration or leave them at home. The use of mobile phones will be strictly prohibited during class hours, and they will be returned after classes end,” he stated.

“I urge all schools across the nation to follow Emirates International School’s lead, as we collectively aim to nurture a generation capable of balancing technology with values, and knowledge with identity. Education is both a trust and a responsibility,” he added.

Emirates International School operates two branches in Dubai, located in Jumeirah and Meadows, according to their website. EIS-Jumeirah was founded in 1991 as part of the Al Habtoor Group’s community service initiatives.
