Huajiang Valley Bridge: World’s Longest in Mountains

The Chinese news agency ‘Xinhua’ reported on Sunday morning that the Huajiang Valley Bridge rises 625 meters above the Beipan River in the mountainous terrain of Guizhou Province, which is about nine times longer than the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, USA. Chinese authorities in Guizhou Province explained that the project, which took three full years to build, has a main span length of 1,420 meters, making it the longest suspension bridge with a long-span steel truss in mountainous terrain in the world.

The Chinese agency noted that the 2,890-meter long structure stretches over the Grand Huajiang Valley, also known as the ‘Earth’s Crevice,’ while the bridge that previously held the title, which spans the Beipan River, is located just over 100 kilometers away from the Grand Huajiang Valley Bridge.

The previous record-holding bridge, opened in 2016, has a vertical height of about 565.4 meters from the bridge surface to the river surface below. It is noteworthy that Guizhou Province has built more than 30,000 bridges in its mountainous terrain, including three of the world’s longest bridges.
