The Israeli newspaper ‘Israel Hayom’ reported on Tuesday evening that the statements of Gideon Sa’ar came during the opening of the Israeli embassy in the Estonian capital, Tallinn. Sa’ar stated that the opening of his country’s embassy in Tallinn is the third this year, following the opening of embassies in Zambia and Moldova. He explained that ‘Iran tried to assassinate Israeli ambassadors and diplomats around the world, including in Mexico.’

Sa’ar said, ‘There have been recent reports about Iran’s attempt to assassinate the Israeli ambassador in Mexico. This is not the only place they tried to do so,’ emphasizing that ‘this will not deter us; on the contrary, we will continue to expand Israel’s relations worldwide.’

It is noteworthy that Iran responded on Monday, denying the American accusations that it was behind a plot to assassinate the Israeli ambassador in Mexico, describing these accusations as ‘ridiculous.’ Ismail Baghaei, a spokesperson for the ministry, stated that his country considers this allegation ‘extremely ridiculous,’ noting that it is part of Washington’s attempts to destroy Iran’s friendly relations with other countries. Meanwhile, the Iranian embassy in Mexico described these accusations as ‘media fabrications and a big lie.’

On Friday, both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Security issued a joint statement denying any knowledge of reports regarding the ‘alleged Iranian attempt’ to assassinate the Israeli ambassador in Mexico City. This was in response to an American-Israeli announcement about the thwarted plot with the help of Mexican authorities. American officials clarified that the assassination plot against the Israeli ambassador was devised late last year and remained active until mid-this year before it was thwarted, confirming that ‘the conspiracy has been fully contained and poses no threat at present.’

Last Friday, Israel announced that Mexican security agencies had thwarted an ‘Iranian plot’ to target its ambassador in Mexico City.
