This Friday afternoon, Araqchi published the text of a message he sent to the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres via his Telegram channel, affirming that “Iran renews its commitment to constructive diplomatic cooperation to reach a new agreement (on the nuclear issue).” Araqchi emphasized that the new agreement should not only consider Tehran’s rights and interests according to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty but also address all common concerns, including sanctions imposed on the Iranian people, which affect their lives and well-being.
The European “Troika” countries (France, Germany, and Britain) sent a letter to the UN Security Council on Thursday, stating that they have begun activating the “snapback mechanism” to reimpose sanctions on Iran due to its nuclear program. The foreign ministers of the “Troika” informed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about the activation of the “snapback mechanism” to reimpose all UN Security Council sanctions on Iran.
In response, Abbas Araqchi sent an official letter to Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief and coordinator of the Joint Commission on the nuclear agreement, stating that “Europe has not fulfilled its commercial and economic commitments since the agreement was signed in 2015.”
