The Israeli newspaper ‘Maariv’ on Sunday urged the political and security levels in Israel to refrain from targeting Hamas leaders in Turkey if the idea is indeed listed on Israel’s target bank. The newspaper explained that there are warnings about Israeli security agencies targeting Palestinian leaders in Turkey, following the failed ‘Summit of Fire’ operation carried out by Israel in the Qatari capital, Doha.
The newspaper called for the Israeli security establishment to abandon its arrogance to avoid severe consequences that will not be limited to condemnation statements in the Turkish case, especially with the newspaper pointing out that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has pursued an anti-Israel policy since he took office in 2003.
The Israeli army announced an air attack, stating that these leaders ‘bear direct responsibility for committing the massacre on October 7, 2023, and managing the war against Israel.’ Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister Yisrael Katz issued a joint statement regarding the arrangement to carry out the assassination operation of Hamas leaders in Doha last Tuesday, saying it ‘came after full consultation and support from the Israeli security agencies,’ and the Israeli army named the operation ‘Summit of Fire.’
This Israeli attack comes days after Israeli Army Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir threatened to eliminate Hamas leaders abroad amid the ongoing war. Last year witnessed a series of Israeli assassinations targeting prominent Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip, Iran, and Lebanon.
