Krasnikov answered affirmatively to ‘Sputnik’ when asked whether the special military operation had stimulated new areas for research and development, as has often happened throughout the history of major military confrontations. Krasnikov added that it is no secret that a lot of work is underway in the field of drones, especially using machine learning techniques, noting that ‘the topic of drone swarms, which are not controlled by human operators but rather by artificial intelligence, remains of great importance.’

Krasnikov further stated, ‘There are also outcomes related to new materials in the field of hypersonic vehicles. In fact, work is currently being actively carried out in this field across almost all relevant areas.’

He concluded by saying, ‘Members of the Russian Academy of Sciences include many chief designers and senior technicians directly involved in this process. Among the active academics, there are about 10 Heroes of Russia and the Soviet Union, 23 Heroes of Labor, and 21 full Knights of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland.’
