Sunil has returned home to reunite with his ‘wife’ and plans to conduct his wedding ceremony himself on September 19.
On August 27, Khaleej Times reported about Sunil missing his wedding due to his employer’s refusal to grant leave and withhold his passport.
His bride, Vidya, a CT-Scan technician in Bangalore, had to accept the ‘pudava’ (an ethnic sari) from Sunil’s sister Suma during the scheduled ceremony at St Antony’s Parish Hall in a village in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district.
Speaking to Khaleej Times from Kerala, Sunil, who works as a security guard, explained that he managed to return home early Friday after legally obtaining his passport. He submitted a petition to the Dubai Court of First Instance for the passport’s urgent release from his employer.
Sunil’s lawyer, Advocate Shamsudeen Karunagappally, stated that the court ordered Al Rafa police to secure Sunil’s passport from his company’s Dubai office. “We went with the police to the company office, but they requested time to retrieve it from their Abu Dhabi main office. The next day, Thursday, when the police followed up, the Dubai office manager handed over the passport,” he explained.
Sunil plans to perform the traditional ‘thaalikettu’, a Hindu wedding ritual, on September 19 at an auspicious time.
“I visited my wife’s family yesterday with some elders to offer support. I also brought her to my home. However, we will live together only after the official wedding,” he stated.
The legal case Sunil filed against his company is scheduled for a hearing on August 26 in a labour court, with his lawyer representing him.
