Syria May Return Spy Eli Cohen’s Remains

Israeli media claimed today, Sunday, that Syria is now working on handing over the remains of the spy Eli Cohen to Israel, after the Mossad received secret documents related to the late agent. Last May, more than two thousand documents, photos, and belongings of Eli Cohen were returned from Syria to Israel in a secret Mossad operation. Cohen was recruited by Mossad and took on a mission in Syria as a businessman named Kamel Amin Thaabet. He succeeded in establishing close relations with high-level political and military figures in the country before his cover was blown. Subsequently, he was executed in Al-Marjah Square in central Damascus on May 18, 1965, and after his execution, the Syrian authorities concealed his burial place.
