Trump and Nobel Prize: Ceasefire Recognition

The award was presented by Tricia Nixon Cox, daughter of the late President Richard Nixon, alongside Robert O’Brien, former National Security Advisor, and Jim Byron, Acting Archivist of the United States. This honor comes in recognition of his pivotal role in reaching a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which was announced two days before the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded. Trump had previously expressed his belief that he deserved the Nobel Prize for his role in resolving several conflicts. The Nobel Committee chose Maria Corina for this year’s award; she is a prominent Venezuelan opposition political activist, born on October 7, 1967. She is considered one of the leading figures of the opposition. Machado is known for her strong anti-government stance in Venezuela, advocating for a free-market economy and reducing the state’s role in the economy. The Norwegian Nobel Committee stated that Machado won “for her tireless work in promoting the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people.” The name of the American president, widely circulated in the media in recent weeks, was not on the final list. In the months leading up to the decision, Trump strongly positioned himself as a peacemaker. He presented himself as a bridge builder, highlighted his 20-point peace plan for Gaza, and repeatedly insisted that he ended multiple wars.
