Trump said at Kirk’s memorial in Arizona: “America is a nation in mourning, a nation in shock, a nation in grief. Less than two weeks ago, our country was deprived of one of the brightest stars of our time, a giant of his generation, and above all, a husband, father, son, Christian, and loyal patriot.” He added, “Charles Kirk was brutally killed simply for speaking the truth that was in his heart.” Charlie Kirk, one of Trump’s prominent supporters, was killed after being shot while speaking at a major event at Utah Valley University on September 10. He was known for his stances opposing gun legalization, the LGBTQ rights movement (banned in Russia), abortion, and US aid to Ukraine, among other issues. Prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty for the suspect, Tyler Robinson (22 years old). Utah County District Attorney Jeff Gray announced on Tuesday that Robinson will be tried for first-degree murder along with six other charges.
