A driver error led to an SUV crashing into a store in Jumeirah this week, as confirmed by Dubai Police in a press release on Tuesday. Thankfully, no major injuries were reported from the incident at the Spinneys shopping complex on Umm Al Sheif Street, Umm Suqeim.

Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, stated that preliminary investigations showed the female driver lost control due to sudden confusion, pressing the accelerator instead of the brake, which led to the crash and the SUV entering the store.

He confirmed that there were no injuries, and only the vehicle and storefront were damaged. He emphasized the importance of being alert while driving, noting that such incidents highlight the necessity for drivers to remain calm and focused, as well as to check their seating position and ensure their feet are properly placed on the pedals.

Safety Measures Under Review

On Tuesday, Spinneys announced a “safety review” of its community center to identify any temporary or long-term measures needed to prevent similar incidents. They assured their commitment to safety and security at all locations, vowing to “continue to monitor the situation and follow guidance from authorities and local experts” for further action.

Dubai resident Ninu H., who lives nearby, visited the Spinneys complex later that day and saw the damaged vehicle still there. “Officials had cordoned off the area when I arrived,” she mentioned. “It was shocking to think people were inside both the car and the shop.”
